Summer Learning, Summer Challenge, Summer Fun

A Summer You'll Never Forget!

It is now a known fact that summer programs focusing on remedial, accelerated, or enriched learning have a positive impact on the students' knowledge and skills.

The intent of the summer learning programs is to prepare students for the next school year, stay mentally active, and have fun. Furthermore, summer is a good time to develop or maintain an appreciation for learning.

More and more parents tend to purposefully manage their children's summer months, and strategically select activities that keep children learning throughout the summer.

Research tells us that:

  • Most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months.
  • Summer learning loss in math can be equal or greater than losses in literacy.
  • Many students find it difficult to recover from summer learning losses. These students tend to learn at a slower pace during the school year, and are not able to catch up to their advantaged peers.
  • About two-thirds of the 9th grade achievement gap between students can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities during the elementary school years.
  • Parents consistently cite summer as the most difficult time to ensure that their children have productive things to do.

PROGRAMS OFFERED:

Math Trail in the Mall

A mathematics trail is a walk to discover mathematics. We can find math trails in many parts of the world. Ours is part of the Canadian Math Trail, and it is in the mall. A shopping mall provides wonderful opportunities to blaze a math trail and discover that mathematics can show up when you least expect it. There will be some physical activities too. Math and physical activity can be fun.

Eight2Nine Math

Is your child prepared for high school math? Many students enroll in the Grade 9 Mathematics course without having the skills and understanding required for high school mathematics. As a result, a number of research studies investigating academic failure during transition to high school report that such failure may increase the probability of not graduating from high school (King, Warren, Boyer, & Chin, 2005; Lee & Burkam, 2003; Roderick, 1993). Enrolling in our unique math program, especially designed to ease the transition and strengthen your child's math and problem-solving skills, ensures the success, not only for grade 9 math level, but also for the entire high school math curriculum.

Art Program

What can be more rewarding than discovering your talent? Many studies show that art education leads to academic achievement, improved self-esteem, and increased critical thinking abilities. Moreover, art education is essential in the educational and emotional development of young children, and their overall growth. The summer months are a great time to try a new artistic adventure. Unleash the creativity within your child this summer. Bring your child's ideas and talents to life in this creative art program, and build the imaginative and artistic skills to the next level.

Math, Physics, and Chemistry Tutoring

Whether you need to catch up or to work on the next level, summer programs are an effective intervention for purposes of academic remediation, enrichment, or acceleration.

High school students planning on taking advanced level of math and science such as Advanced Functions, Calculus, Physics, or Chemistry, can be overwhelmed quickly with the new concepts and the pace in which those courses are done in school.

Keep up your math and science knowledge and skills and make the most of this summer. Convinient hours and flexible scheduling help you learn and study at your own pace and get ahead.

Summer Reading, Writing, and OSSLT Preparation

Maintain and improve your child's reading and writing skills through the summer months and keep them active at the same time. This program is designed to improve students' reading and writing abilities, and create a love of books and words. The reading part of the program focuses on reading development skills, such as phonics, decoding, comprehension, and analysis, as well as on reading comprehension. The writing part focuses on fun writing activities to help improve spelling, grammar, sentence structure, paragraph development, and essay writing.

For high school students, successful completion of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Literacy is a fundamental life skill that is essential for success in life. Our program will effectively prepare you for the literacy test, in both the reading and the writing skill components.
